“This year the Yarra Valley saw an earlier and more condensed harvest than usual with most grapes picked two weeks before their picking dates in recent vintages. We were very lucky to have good winter rainfall followed by dry, warm weather for the crucial part of the growing period. Soil moisture retained high throughout the dry spells, and cool nights helped to retain acidity. So far, the Shiraz is a favourite of the vintage, and our usual best blocks of Chardonnay and Pinot are in barrel and looking REALLY good. Cabernet is still on skins, but showing considerable promise. The consensus is that we can expect great things coming out of this vintage”.
